In 1976 I decided to hitchhike across the country to unite with some friends. After several days, I found myself in an early season snowstorm in North Dakota. I was tired and a Truck driver gave me a ride. When he stopped to let me out, I told him thanks, and that I couldn't believe it was snowing in September. He looked at me and said, Septembers Gone. It was the first day of October. I don't know why that registered with me like it did. I had my guitar, and a back pack. He had an extra coat and gave it to me. I was going thru a box just last year and found the sign I had used when I was hitch hiking, 36 years later. I had everyone sign it that gave me a ride and I was still thinking about that driver and came up with the Idea for the song.
