Hauling down the road after last nights show
Open sky ahead and only 30 miles from home.
Trainwreck in my mind and Pink Floyd on the radio.
I didn't see him hiding on the grassy knoll below.

I tried to hit the brakes but it was much too late for that.
Smokey on my six and he's gaining on me fast.
I was looking for a place where I could hide my stash.
And as I pulled to the shoulder I saw my rearview and I gasped.

I had the Red Eye, and man I had it bad.
I had the Red Eye, the worst I ever had.
I had the Red Eye, there was nothing I could say.
I had the Red Eye, it ain't my lucky day.

But what was I to do, he was climbing out of his car.
If I put the pedal to the floor I might not make it very far.
So I said a little prayer as he was knocking on my window.
And as I rolled it down I was thinking,"Here we go!".

I gave him my credentials but I knew that I'd been beat.
When he walked away I shoved my stash beneath my seat.
But he came back with a warning, he told me to take it slow.
And he gave me a wink as he slid his glasses down his nose.

He had the Red Eye, and man He had it bad.
He had the Red Eye, the worst He ever had.
He had the Red Eye, there was nothing He could say.
He had the Red Eye, it was my lucky day.

Because We had the Red Eye, and man We had it bad.
We had the Red Eye, the worst We ever had.
We had the Red Eye, there was nothing We could say.
We had the Red Eye, it was my lucky day.
