Bio

Katherine Estelle Roberts (Stella) recently had the honor of performing in the Phoenix Renaissance Inc. benefit concert in the same line up as Stellar award nominee, Wess Morgan, and well-known acts Flossie Boyd & Favor and Edwin Golson and the Elect. Katherine taught herself to sing by "screaming", for which she got to sit in the "no fun room" in pre-school. Nevertheless, Katherine persisted, and by age 10 she was recognized for her efforts with a solo in the upcoming school chorale program. From that moment on, Katherine was an integral part of the school chorus, the FUMC of Dalton Church choir, and Dalton Little Theatre. Katherine kept busy during the school year with school musicals, and performed with DLT in the Summers. She was awarded the part of "The Fairy Godmother" in "Cinderella" and "Anybody's" in "West Side Story". Although Katherine's parents did not allow her to go to acting school, she did get to attend Oberlin College, and was able to take classes at the world famous Oberlin Conservatory. In college, and later at IICD Mass., Katherine helped promote and host open mic. nights. In her town of Myrtle Beach, SC, Katherine has produced several shows, including "Raise the Roof for Habitat" including eight choirs of African-American and European musical heritage. She also created, produced and promoted "One and All Music Party" with musicians from folk, rock, Southern rock, & spoken word genres, and "Beach Baby's Benefit Concert" with original independent bands. These events educated the public on Pumpkin House Trust for Children in Ahmednagar, India, an Beach Baby's Doula Services, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, SC. Katherine has been a guest vocalist numerous times with Dr. Ray Piano Man, Avatar Blues and Jazz Ensemble, and The King Shazaam Variety Show. She has recorded at three recording studios, most recently Ocean 10 studios, where Jay Burgess was the Sound Engineer, and Pamela Cannon-Cook produced the recording. Katherine has taken over 10 years of voice lessons with Pamela Cannon-Cook, Ruth Baker, Stephanie Black, and Hasu Patel (who taught her Indian rags). Katherine is not shy about singing acapella and often uses her gifts at Fresh Brewed Coffeehouse of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kirtan at Harmony Yoga of Wilmington, where she has the opportunity to lead songs and chants from multiple traditions. Katherine plans on expanding her jazz repertoire shortly, and joining a band as the lead singer.
