I started playing guitar in 1976,took lessons for 8 years, taught lessons in a couple local music stores, played in the musical Godspell, and played in numerous bands, finally landing Fungus Amongus. A band who defied categorization at every turn. Appealing to a wide eclectic audience, when asked to describe the band's sound, those who heard us could only respond, "You have to hear them for yourself." Consisting of Marty O- Lead guitar and Lead vocals and bass, Graham Howes- Guitar and vocals, Mike "Shpike" McLean and Paul La Fornara on bass, Pat Georger- Keys, and John "Johnny Vegas" Antonelli- on drums. The band played from 1991 to 2003.You name the place, they played it. Even doing an Canadian/American Exchange at Toronto's Opera House. Scored a soundtrack to a UB Buffalo senior's thesis movie project that's become stuff of legend in the UB Media Study Dept., not to mention various spots on their radio station WBNY which still plays our stuff to this day! Did a spot on national radio WKBW, and 103.3 The Edge and 101.1 The Planet's Buffalo Lix and The State of Independants shows repectively. Shot a special music video "Red Morgan,Pirate of the High Seas" which appeared on WIVB Channel 4's television show Nickel City Scene, devoted to music of Buffalo and southern Ontario. Made a studio recording entitled Experimental Monkey, and did many a 8- track home recordings.98% of the music was the efforts of Marty O.All in the days of no internet or modern day home studio programs! We were finalists in many Starhunt competitions and nominated for Best New Original Group in the Buffalo Music Awards, which landed a gig at the Buffalo Convention Center.
As the group eventually dissolved, the music still lives on and I will post many a fine tunes we did. A reunion is in the works and eventually new music being worked on will make this site too.I like writing all kinds of stuff, there is no boundries or formulas, I write what I enjoy, and if you do too, that's a plus.Enjoy!
